It is a shame, but the couple of one shots had generally more promise than the new long series Tokiwa Kitareri. I read the TK for a while and decided that this is too much like anything else out there in the fantasy-manga genre.
A little about the art... In the Tokiwa Kitareri the art is softer/inky/smudgy than in the HSDK. I do not enjoy reading at much as I did Kenichi. Maximum fan service without going full hentai, but the fun is forced and rather dull. To me it also seamed like Kenichi had resurrected like the spiritual ninja-boy, which was not the best idea IMO.
I do not know if the translating group doing the TK is very slow, or is Mr. Syun taking it easy, but the publication speed is too close to the HunterXHunter to my liking.
We could make a list of mangas that are similar to the TK, or that do the same things/themes better.
If I ask this question to myself, the desperately slow starting Noblesse comes to mind for some reason. It is very different, but had a better story than the Tokiwa Kitareri (however, the teenage-vibe is left in the dirt after the first arc).

That manga is drawn by Shu Matsuda, not Shun Matsuena. He is one of Matsuena's former assistants. (Trivia: Matsuena refers to Matsuda as his Disciple #1.)
And it's published under the ura shonen sunday label, which belongs under the shonen sunday umbrella.
Volume 2 isn't out yet. It will go on sale together with Tokiwa Kitareri vol 12 & 13 on 18/7.

We got another illustration for Matsuda's manga. It seems like he draws one every two weeks when a new chapter is published on that mangaone app.

A few of the manga in Sunday are ending, Magi being one of them. They announced two new series, but I think there will be more. I hope that Mr. Matsuena gets another chance, but right now it doesn't look like it.
Tell him, he can try smoking weeds if he has a mental block problem.

I don't think that Mr. Matsuena is the problem here, he said that he wants to draw something new eventually. But he cannot draw anything if his editor & publisher don't green-light another serialization.Tell him, he can try smoking weeds if he has a mental block problem.

Volume 3 of Tensou Kidou Alvadring will go on sale in January (approximately). I'm curious whether Mr. Matsuena's name will be printed on the cover together with his disciple's name this time. He has been supplying quite a few illustrations. I think there might me a tiny, tiny, tiny chance that they are going to turn this into a joint work.

And there we finally have the confirmation that in 2018 Mr. Matsuena is going to start a new serialization in Shonen Sunday.
I really hope it's going to be early 2018 and not in 6 months or so.
So much for my theory the he and his disciple are going to work together on Tensou Kidou.

That's difficult to say. I've read a bit what the Japanese fans on 2ch(an) say. A few of them think that HSDK 2 might be possible, many think that it will be something else, and then of course there's the fraction that says he should just go ahead and draw porn.
It's interesting that we have absolutely no official hints about his new manga. No promotional art, no genre, no exact start date. All we know is that he's drawing something and that Shonen Sunday is going to release more info at a later point. (Please let that later point be next week or the week after that).
Personally, I'd absolutely love to see Kenichi return. There are so many loose threads and unanswered questions that could be addressed. And, as you mentioned, they have made the whole series available for free recently. My inner feeling however tells me that it's going to be a new story mostly unrelated to his previous works. I hope I am wrong.
An official translation would be great. Why did Kenichi get licensed in France, Italy and China, but not in any other country?
