I am going through HSDK again because of fanfiction so I guess I got the hsdk bug again :)

Anyway, my question for you guys is, if you could change an established character how would you change it? Here is my list:

Michael Schtilvay: This is a character that I like but his development really bothered me a great deal. In my opinion, instead of Ogannosuke, you could have had two Saiga/Senzui level masters and I feel that between Michael, Seitaro and Edletraft, you could have made them high level masters just not legendary.

Regards to Michael, if I could change him, I would make it so that he was trained in a martial arts like kung fu and that he learned how to wield a halberd with scythe. The reason I say kung fu is that, the scythe has no balance and its awkward as hell and so the practioner is forced to develop his balance beyond the norm which forces him to level up to new heights in terms of power, speed and technique.

Another thing is, he should have a least been on par with Hongo/Sakaki/Apachai. His brief fight with Mycroft showed that he is stronger than a regular master and yet he cant beat elite masters.

Oganosuke Yokiou: Honestly, he should have been foreshadowed long ago if he was going to appear as an enemy. Anyway, if I could change him I would have him as a neutral character similar to the bear master.

What I mean is, Yokious would still be a legendary master who NEVER stopped training like a hungry and motivated disciple. He would be used as an example that, if you don't stop training, if you don't lose your passion and obsession for the martial arts then you can reach levels beyond your wildest expectation.

Its not an accident that Ishida,Mycroft,Eclair,Retsumin,Ortal Sin,Sogaku, Sherman and Cedrick are only regular masters. Its because they become content with their level of martial arts and they simply use it for assassination purposes. All of these characters I named have been seen hunting down civilians or disciples. Its like they have no interest to take their martial art/physical abiltiies to the next level.

Going back to Yokiou, he is based on Miyamoto Musashi, a legendary real life master that only challenged the strongest swordsmen of his time and when he was not doing that, he was contemplating ideas and writing it down in his book or he was training and developing his sword style and spending time meditating to clear his thoughts and maintain mental clarity.

But in the manga, Yokiou is a leader of the armed division and yet Seitaro was the brains and Yokiou only served as a super powered thug. In the chapter where he was looking for Elder (sleeping) he came off as someone who is not the sharpest tool in the shed. That in itself bothers me more than Mihails character because its very disrespectful since Miyamoto was not senile idiot who kept getting spooked by Hayatos snores.

Sorry for the rant and on the positive side, I find Shio Sakaki and Ogata Isshinsais characters to be PERFECT! Shio is like wolverine and he is a complete badass, he reminds me of Takamura from Hajime No Ippo and re-reading his past with Hongo/Hajime makes me want to see Sakaki as a main character of his own Manga/Anime series.

I wouldn't really change much.

I just wish that the Hachiou Executioner Blade members were more fleshed out.

Many of my complaints would be fixed - I feel - if HSDK wasn't forced to end/cancelled

(since Matsuena Syun is one of the few mangaka that actually knows how to properly utilize all of their characters)
