Wow, just... wow. I won't spoil anything for anyone who hasn't read this yet. This chapter marks the return of HSDK. It is great on so many levels. Bravo Matsuena.

That last hit was amazing. The vampire bite I could do without.

I think both attacks were great, and appropriate, so appropriate in fact that I want to give Matsuena-san a proverbial hat tip for great story telling. Somehow I had a nagging feeling that Tanaka hesitated again in that last moment, because if he bit in and held, Kensei would have been dead even if he did the last hit so fast that Tanaka could not react. Kensei's force would have dragged his throat out with Tanaka and killed them both.

Anyone notice that both Kai and Tanaka's battles with Ogata were happening when they were surrounded by fire :o

Well, I don't want to spoil anything but I really think there's a lot of blood on this chapter, I'm not complaining about it but the last hit it's really amazing and kind of cruel. Also, I don't know if it was just me or any one else is confused about what happen with Tanaka's Juujo Kubiki???

Fatality! Flawless Victory!

RIMI RUINED THE CHAPTER FOR ME!!!!!!! Wait a minute... Kenichi isn't a vampire and Luffy didn't make a cameo... o|

@Samrow I'm also confused about waht happened with Juujo Kubiki. It didn't look like it did anything. I'm sure we'll find out next chapter that it was a fatal blow or something with a delayed impact and both Tanaka and Ogata will die.

Welcome to the forums! :D

Are we talking about the part where someones fingers pierced through someone's hands? Because I totally got lost at that part.

But Ogata slamming down on Tanaka's head. That was epic.

The finger sequence played out like this I believe:

- Tanaka palm thrusted

- Ogata blocked from below by catching tanaka's wrist with his fingers

- Tanaka finger thrusted through his palm and the blood splattered on Kensei's eyes, or he did hit Kensei just under the eye and drew blood but did not blind Kensei

Where is Tanaka's head now?

That was a damn bloody chapter D:

Tanaka no longer has a head I'm afraid.

Nope, I'm fairly certain it's just a little "sunk in" to his chest. Heads don't just go nowhere.

By the way, I notice that the pacing in this fight was very fast, much faster than a "high disciple" fight, but not quite fast enough that it becomes incomprehensible.

Either Matsuena-san is moving away from the "flurry of motions too fast to see they look like lasers" style of previous master fights, or Ogata is a supermaster but not quite at the same level as the higher tier fighters of the 9 Fists.

I really hope that this is a stylistic choice instead of an indication of ranking. (because if "fight clarity" translates to ability ranking then a lot of things in the story so far would become inconsistent, like Ma Kensei would appear to be the weakest of Ryo, Alexander would be among the strongest of OSNF because at top speed both him and Akisame was nearly invisible, and Apachai and Agaard would be even faster than that because there are points where their motion literally could not be depicted even by lasers...)

@citizen_lion it could also indicate that fights as a whole will be changing in HSDK. I'm not opposed to that honestly.

@Kanbaru Same difference.

Hmm i think the depiction of these fights are kinda from the semi narrative viewpoint of Kenichi that is to say as he grows and matures in his martial arts he is able to comprehend more of the fights and hence demystify most of the techniques.

I think the speed of the fight effectively underscores the sheer ferocity of this battle. Tanaka knows exactly how to fight Ogata, and thus Ogata has only split seconds to counter, unlike other fights in the series where both fighters sought to figure out their opponent before fully engaging.

Also, great chapter. Some excellent panels, though I did have to do a double take with who's fingers pierced what.

This was indeed the bloodiest chapter for a long time. I know everyone's made of iron in this manga, but Tanaka looks like he won't be coming back from that last blow...

Seriously, I would be so happy if the author let Kenichi declare that previously he only sees lasers (aka. perceiving the movement trajectory, etc.), but now he can see things in actual details, that would totally put the entire artstyle progression into a more sensible light.

(which would make fights like Ma Kensei vs. Ma Sougetsu become sensible too, because that fight was happening mostly away from Kenichi's eyes, so from the point of view of the two masters, of course the details resolve clearly)

Berserker can also deliver this remark in a more amusing way. After all he is taking the role of fight correspondent pretty well now, perhaps signifying his future career path with ESPN...

On the last page you don't see his head, instead of that you can see a lot of blood where his head used to be. I know that heads don't go nowhere but try to smash a tomato with your full strength and you can figure out what happened with his head.

I was talking about the part where someone used his Juujo Kubiki and on the next panel you can see someone's hands fully covered on blood. I have two theories, the first one is that someone's enemy pierce someone's hands at high speed to stop someone's attack. The other theory is that someone's enemy has a kind-of-metal body and endure someone's attack. :o

Well, this was an interesting chapter. The artwork was very nice.

It seems Ryuto lost the strength to move after using Seidou Gouitsu or it has something to do with the technique Tanaka used to stop it. For a second, I thought the entire chapter was going to be about Kenichi saving Miu from the amusement park.

Tanaka piercing his own hand reminds me of Hongo kicking his injured hand to land the final blow on Jenazhad.

Even though I never really liked Tanaka, and I want Ogata to win this fight, I can't help but feel really sad. The dude lost his wife and child, shows up like a badass, and then gets killed in one of the most brutal ways I've ever seen in HSDK. I just hope the author won't pull something like Tanaka taking Ogata with him. Ogata cannot die, yet. Also, we need to see Ogata use Seidou Gouitsu. It would be such a waste for him not to.

I also noticed that Ogata doesn't seem very happy right now. When he killed those two thugs in front of Ryuto, he was all smiles. I wonder will the Ryozanpaku masters will show up, or will Kenichi and co. stumble back home after all this is done.

DAAAAAAAAAAAAMN!!!!

that was crazy...I'm awe right now

Tanaka should of worn a helmet to the fight

Tanaka should of worn a helmet to the fight

As if a helmet would slow Ogata down. Pfft.

Also guys there was a new clearfile with this chapter. I'll try to find the naked version. :3

Wait. Tanaka pierced his own hand? Ugh so confusing.

Also yeah. Definitely the most brutal in HSDK. But still..Ogata gained new respect from me for it.

Yeah, Ogata's index and middle finger are holding Tanaka's wrist.

No, but it would helped keep in brain from exploding out of his head
