It was great seeing Ryuto again!

Its funny to see two weapon masters vs yomi and shinpaku alliance!

If they beat the weapon masters, does this mean that yomi could beat a weaponless Shigure or is Shigure without a weapon still superior than two weapons masters???

This whole two weapons masters vs yomi disciples has rekindled my interest of weaponless Shigure vs Yomi match up!

That being said, I perfer to have Alex and Diego show up and defeat them since it would cheapen the status of masters if two of them get beat by a group of already injured disciples.

Berseker was awesome in this chapter could it be after Kajima he's the strongest Yomi?

Cool chapter.  These team fights are really well done.  Most other shonen just sort of split it to one on ones.

It seems like we're far off from the end...

A couple of faces left to appear... Rimi and perhaps the yami master?

The king has returned! It's good to see my boy Ryuto getting in on the action. I like the way he just took charge so quickly.

It's also good to see Renka again. I missed her. :(

I really liked the art in this chapter. I cant enjoy it as much though with magical teleporting alies. Why didnt more of the phoenix alliance come with them. More master, especially that of Hakubi's level would be useful against yami.

1. This blew all of my Renka Theories out of the water.

2. Hell. Yes. Ragnorak is back!!!!!! Where's Loki now?

3. Hermit + Odin + Berserker = bad luck master monk man. Siegfried should've been apart of that group to be the shield, but no complaints from me.

My concern is for Hermit though. Ryuto and Berserker each has enhancers/power ups to boost up their skills, but what of Hermit? Determination? Some secret Ma style-technique that he'll reveal next time they're on set?

I'm sure he'll be fine. Right?

And where's Rimi?

And the panel where Asuka corrects Takeda on the location of the brawling masters was funny to me. They've let their bygones be bygones.

I think they left Rimi out since she is too one minded and would get in the way of Ryuto because she wants to protect him which ends up causing Ryuto more problems since Ryutos plan requires team work and not "Hey lets all protect my beloved Ryuto" :)

This chapter makes me scream like a raging fanboy! It's so awesome in every way! The art, the story progress. Berserker. and Ryuto.

So basically Ryuto evolved Seikuken instead of going to the path of Ryusui Seikuken. He is truly a natural "sei dou" fighter, in that sense, because instead of making the Seikuken more "sei", which will naturally turn it into RS, he just adds more power into his strikes, and more strikes, making the Seikuken sphere harder to penetrate. In fact it has become an offensive technique!

And Berserker is... well, this is the Elder in the making for you. He displays insane level of body awareness and acrobatic abilities that make Miu blush. Also he has become noticeably nicer as a person. Still belligerent, but only as a fighter. He no longer has an insufferable arrogant attitude. Berserker still need a finisher to become the strongest Yomi, though. I hate to say it but I certainly could see him copying Myubioshi or Korui Nuki, or at least adapting some elements of it to his own body.

Hermit hasn't shown his trump card yet, which he will in the next fight. I wouldn't be surprised if he will display an enhanced, faster version of the Kyuusa, which will down the Monk master. No one in the trio has nearly enough power to KO a master, and this is no garbage like Fortuna either. So the only thing Ryuto and Berserker can do is to hold out and distract while Hermit set up a big attack.

Renka is also noticeably cuter, by the way :D As for why Rimi isn't here. I wouldn't be surprised if she is the rearguard, an opportunistic wild card. She is certainly fast enough to play this role.

I want to see a Hermit / Renka tag team, by the way. It's a lot better a pair than Renka x Nijima...

renka x hermit incoming?

please ma style tag-team PLEASE!

Well Shigure is considered a grand master so, maybe

Also, I want to see at some point in this manga, Kenichi, Takeda, Odin, Berserker, and Hermit have to fight together vs some impossibly strong opponent. And this group has to have a cool name, like "Histories 5" or something lol. Anyone else feel this way? XD

Cool idea. This is the point where the story of HSDK will not progress anymore by introducing more master fights. Seriously, every time there is a disciple chapter, I get so happy. The Senzui / Saiga fight has bored me to death. The story is cool, mind you, but the fight itself is boring. I would much rather have Saiga being only a grandmaster, and utterly destroyed, even killed, by Senzui. THAT would make for good story. But no, we have to have one more even master fight that probably will end with Saiga winning (please no please!), which will destroy any shred of conflict this manga has.

Someone, or hell, some... thing, must appear and defeat Ryozanpaku. No death is really that necessary, but they must lose massively and run with their tails between their legs all barely managed to survive.

That will give this story room for growth, and perhaps a situation where the History's 5 will have to fight a high master / low grandmaster, and have to use all of their smarts and maturity to win (because their strength will still be too low to match against a high master...)

I had this excitement (What you guys are feeling) for a long time! I've been dying to see Renka and Hermit taking on some Chinese group or something, or him, Genson, and that other guy working together.

Is it just me or does the Author HATE Weapon users!!!????

I can't help but notice that weapon masters are either portrayed as incompetent chumps who have a tendency to get embarressed or humilated or overall end up looking very petty.

Heres a closer look:

Shigure: First master in the series to interfer with a disciple fight by fighting the valkaries. Later, she gets captured and then gets slammed to the wall by cannon fodders and getting pushed to the cell in a very sexualy submissive manner by fodder guards.

Sai Kagerou: Turned in to a comedic relief after he lost his sword in his fight with Shigure and came off as this pitiful begger who had no idea of the concept shame. Luckly he had his moment before his demise but still, he was subject to embarressment.

Grandpa Freeya: Pretty much got laid down quick off-panel and also has been captured as well!

Mildred: Looked like a loser againts Shigure and Kensei Ma and got her thong stolen. Really hard to take her seriously as a fighter

Raki: Had a goofy look to her when she found out that Marmaduke was a female and she was too concerned to fight Kensei Ma and not very competent or effective overall.

Marmaduke: Looked like a badass when the Hachiou Master Sillouhatte was shown but making her female made her just a side joke for Kensei Ma and getting her armour stolen is just very very sad.

Seitaro: Sucks at disguises, sneak attacks Sai and still unable to take him out and in an ironic twist of him sneak attacking Akisame, he gets Sneak attacked by a half dead Sai and almost gets KOed from a punch from a weapon user( Berserker alone would beat him in an unarmed fight! Thats how much he SUCKS!!!)

Michael Schtilvay: Sigh...king of all jokes, can't fight without holding a hostage, has to attack women and infants, gets punked by Shigure,Hongo and Sakaki, Kajima could dodge him with ease, gets one shotted from one single move performed by Hongo and it didn't even look like it was Hongos best move either. ( Sho Kano would probably beat him with or without weapon)

Rin Tachibana: Another joke, could barely keep up with Shigure who had zero armour and barely any weapon, gets his weapon stolen from her and in the flashback, dude came off as a creepy pervert.

Edletraft: Meh, he has been portrayed somewhat decently, but even then, he looked like a chump trying to hold down Kensei Ma and getting Bashed in the head by Sougetsu.

Ganosuke Yokio: Like Edletraft, he has been portrayed decently, though he looked like a toolbox when he was looking for the Elder which made him look somewhat senile with his "OMG is that some sort of super secret wave??" Now I know Ganosuke is stronger than Berserker and Ryuto, but in terms of swagger, charisma and overall badassary, Ryuto and Berserker are way more badass in the way they carry themselves!!!

Now the weapon masters are have been deduced to fighting unarmed disciples and if they lose or get damaged its just going to be very sad and a weapon has NEVER EVER defeated an unarmed master in this manga!!!  Really in terms of Swagger or Mojo, the weapon masters have been portrayed as chumps and losers who have been humilated or have performed actions that is weak and cowardly and straight up lame.

At first I thought that weaponless Shigure vs Yomi is insulting to Shigure, but the way the author has been portraying them, it makes me feel that Weaponless Shigure vs Yomi is an insult to how good unarmed disciples are.

P.S: Weapon disciples are terrible and useless

@Ogata

What do you expect? In peaceful time like this killing is not necessary and weapon users are usually killers. Also weapon users do not train their body in the same way that unarmed fighters do, they rely on their weapon to destroy, not their body. People like Ganosuke have trained up their bodies to superhuman levels, and thus match and have an edge against unarmed opponents. Im sure this is blatantly obvious, however it explains why weapon users get ridiculed. Not to mention the silly doctrines. Plot needs scapegoats too.

However this goes into why Kenichi will be very strong when he reaches Master level. His endurance from getting the crap betten out of him by everyone in addition to supperior health care(CoughModifiedhumananatomycough) is a few dozen notches above everyone elses. Take for instance Miu, who rarely gets hit. She can be taken like a weapon user, or alot of skilled unarmed fighters. If someone manages to get a hit on her she get badly owned. The only exeption was the rimi fight, tho that may have been her dou ki that kept her in. Kenichi will probably be nigh invisible to some.

I agree completely with this. In a way, in the HSDK verse having a weapon is a short term boost in power, but a long term handicap in peak power. In the HSDK verse (not in the real world, sadly), bone hardness can go up to that of solid steel (oh well, in one scene, it went all the way up to that of diamond).

That means having a weapon only increases your range, not your destructive power anymore, after a certain level. This range increase comes with a slight decrease in agility, too, unless you get to Shigure's / Sai Kagerou's level, where the sword became a literal part of your limb.

Having a killing tool makes you lax more in your body conditioning because you always thought that you can win with one hit in (and indeed most of the time this is the case). You also have more advantage in a protracted fight because you can just bleed an opponent to death. Because of this they forget that their own body is just as vulnerable, especially when the opponent is a true superhuman.

That said, I really want to see a gunslinger with a master's body. Say, a true disciple or old comrade of Lancelot Grey. (Jenny was only a kid back then and a young girl now, so she is probably still in expert class, or low master).

Imagine someone who can fire a machine gun with a master's reflex and muscle control... Where the whole TORRENT of bullets are all aimed, and not only that, compensated for the motions of the target. That is a truly terrifying thought.

I have been wanting that ever since the concept of bullet dodging showed up. Hear the sound of the trigger pulled and predict the trajectory. Super cool but can be broken so easily. Such as with smooth triggers, an actual ability to aim, the fact that bullet trajectory has slight variables such as wind and cannot be predicted so easily, or a person of true master level. Although technically a lot of masters are weapon users, since complete mastery requires mastery of said weapons in the martial art. If people like Jenazad used weapons along without breaking an inanely silly doctrine/pride of martial arts mumbo jumbo, they would be truly terrifying opponents.

To combatmaster1o3 and Citizen Lion:

Great post, it makes sense why weapon users are so terrible with exceptions of Ganosuke Yokiou,Shigure and Sai kagerou!

Ganosuke Yokiou is a homage to Myomoto Musashi and it has been said that Myoto was a master of jujitsu whenever he was unarmed+ Myomoto trained from head to toe and meditated a lot to build his mind up.

Shigure trains with Ryo masters, she has shown some unarmed abilities and that's why her being weaponless made me curios how well she do against unarmed disciple, meanwhile a weaponless master like Raki,Mildred,Seitaro,Edletraft or Michael would probably get beaten against one disciple around Kajima,Berserker or Shos level!

Sai Kagerou, I don't know if he had unarmed training, but he seems like the obsessive type that wants to honor his beloved sword by becoming a sincere master of his body so he can protect his one true "love" which is his sword. Eitherway, dude knows how to take a hit and has tank endurance like kenichi and Kajima.

So what if a master like batman appeared who also uses guns yet is an unparalleled unarmed fighter. Batman is someone who has trained in essentially all weapons to master level, his body and skills to master level. If that say that person existed in this universe would he be unstoppable.( Of course he's been leveled to this universe as Legendary master because any thing less is an insult) Bullet dogging is out of question, weakness in unarmed is out of question. Also presume this master is sane and his martial art doctrine is kill when it is inevitable.( the masters at Ryzonpaku actually have something like this at times of war) Can he be defeated?

@Ogata Well http://www.mangapand...-kenichi/491/16 this happened. Even if Shigure acknowledges that raising your physical abilities is also important as well as honing your skills and techniques, in unarmed their not separate their symbiotic. This overcomes the advantage of using a weapon plus the author's bias

I don't understand the link! All I see is Sakaki getting pissed at Takeda and Kisara, telling them they have to fight him if they want to go in to Ogatas castle. Not sure what it has anything to do with Shigure!?

@Ogata I should've explained that at the bottom panel all the masters jump the distance in one stride except one (well elder double jumps), that one at the bottom is probably Shigure and that speaks a lot in their physical differences.

Edit: Ms link http://readms.com/r/hsdk/491/1459/15

@Raigou

Also speaks of the advantage of weapons then. Plus im pretty sure Shigure said she doesn't have strong legs.

I looked at the chapter again, is Ryuto going to perfect the Seidou Gouitsu? I can easily imagine him training a disciple how to balance and control both Ki's, just as he did. Also is Ryuto stronger than Beserker at-this-point he one maned what looked to be a fierce team by himself. He pushed them back like it was nothing.
